Advent Family Worship - Day 3

Begin by singing a favorite Christmas song.

Light the first Advent Candle and ask, “What is our Advent theme this week?” …Have a discussion about joy using the following discussion questions.

Read Philippians 4:4-7.

• Q. What is it easy for you to get excited about? Why is it so hard to get excited about spiritual things?
• Q. Philippians 4:4 commands us to “rejoice” in the Lord. You can’t always control whether you feel joyful, but you can choose to rejoice. What do you think it means to “rejoice”? Is it a feeling or an action?

Read Psalm 126:5-6 together.

• Q. What do you think these verses mean? What is the promise God makes to us in them?
• Q. What is one sad thing in your life that you want to come untrue?

Pray using the A.C.T.S. model.

• Adore God for his love and his power.
• Confess your joylessness.
• Give thanks for Jesus. He has come to save us.
• Ask the Holy Spirit to give you greater joy in Jesus during this Christmas season.
