Jesus wins! That’s the good news for today.

Discussion Questions

  1. In your own words, explain the lesson of the parable of the Weeds.
  2. Cynicism is the opposite of hope. Discuss. Why is cynicism out of touch with reality? When we say the kingdom is here (i.e. already), what do we practically mean?
  3. Naïve optimism is also the opposite of hope. Discuss. Why is it out of touch with reality? When we say the kingdom is not all the way here (i.e. not-yet), what do we practically mean?
  4. Do you personally tend towards cynicism or optimism when it comes to the way the world is going? Why? What’s made you that way?
  5. The parable teaches that God intends the weeds to remain until Jesus comes again. How do you feel about that? Why do you think God would do it that way?
  6. What is hope? Where does hope come from? How is hope the middle ground between cynicism and naïve optimism?
