The Heir & the Wicked Tenants

February 21, 2016 Speaker: Drew Bennett Series: The Gospel of Luke

Passage: Luke 19:45–48, Luke 20:9–19

Discussion Questions:

  1. The basic “doctrine” of the sermon was that we all are (naturally) hostile to God. We hate the idea of God’s rule over our lives. React to that teaching. Do you agree or disagree? If you agree, describe your own struggle with this.
  2. Sometimes when we get mad at one another we’re really mad at God for the way things are going in our lives. Can you give a personal example?
  3. The reason we hate God is that we are tenants and we sinfully want to be the owner. In what area of your life do you most feel this struggle? At work? With your finances? With your kids?
  4. Religion is a strategy for controlling your life. It is an attempt to control God. Explain.
  5. What does the cornerstone metaphor mean? How does God overthrow our hostility in the gospel so that we can love him and obey him as we should?
