Discussion Questions:

1. Discuss the following quote from C.S. Lewis: “There is no safe investment. To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to be sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carefully around with hobbies and little luxuries, avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket- safe, dark, motionless, airless – it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable… The only place outside of Heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love is Hell.” (C.S. 2. Were you surprised that Jesus was weeping as he entered Jerusalem? Why does that seem so out of place? Why do you think he was weeping?
3. Hebrews 4:15 tells us that Jesus is compassionate towards our brokenness and sin. Do you have a hard time believing that? Are you compassionate towards yourself? Have you experienced the compassion of others?
4. Just like Jesus wept over Jerusalem, we should weep over the brokenness of our city. What keeps us from weeping over our city? What would happen if we began to weep over our city?
