Dear Members & Attenders of Redeemer City,

This coming Sunday, as we continue our series on the 7 Deadly Sins, I’ll be preaching about lust. I will be talking very frankly about God’s design for sex and how sexual sin is a distortion of that design. In preparing, it also occurred to me that, being the first Sunday of the month, the children are scheduled to be in the service with us. If you have children, conversations about sex and sexuality should be happening in your home. I hope they are. If you think it would assist you in your work with your kids, we would love for them to sit in on the “adult" conversation during the sermon on Sunday. I will do my best to keep things PG (or PG-13 at least). if you haven’t had these conversations, this week (before Sunday) would be a great time. Children are being exposed to sex at a younger age than ever before. However, knowing how sensitive a subject this can be for elementary-aged children, we have decided to provide a class for kids up to 5th grade in case you feel they are not ready to participate in discussions about lust and sexual sin.

If you have teenagers I hope you will make every effort to be here. I think the teaching will be very helpful to them at this formative time in their lives. I have three teenagers, so my mind is full of them as I study and prepare.

As always, I would appreciate your prayers leading up to Sunday. These are important things for us to be talking together about. A pastor friend recently said that preaching on sexuality feels like "trying to defuse a nuclear bomb, in the middle of a minefield, with bottles of nitroglycerin in my backpack, all while the enemy is firing away at everyone.” I feel that!

Affectionately,

Drew Bennett
